Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Contrary to what you may have heard about acupuncture it is not an esoteric “energy medicine.” Acupuncture works by directly affecting blood flow to areas of the body that need it most. It also works on the nervous system and stimulates the brain to send signals to diminish pain. The word Qi used when describing acupuncture actually means air or oxygen, not a mysterious invisible force flowing through the body. You may also have heard the word Meridian used when describing acupuncture, this was another mistranslation and what the ancients were actually referring to was simply blood vessels. They were aware of complex systems of the body including the cardiovascular and nervous system, well before it was documented in the West. Chinese medicine remains the most researched and used system of medicine by people in the world today and its history dates back thousands of years.

What is community acupuncture?

Community acupuncture offers treatment in a group setting as opposed to each person being in a private room. This is actually how it is done in Asia. The community room is filled with your choice of a comfy recliner, zero gravity chair or massage table. Being treated in a group setting also has been shown to have positive healing benefits. It is also practical for those coming in with friends or family members and many find it comforting to not be isolated during a treatment. Lastly this style makes it possible to offer treatments at a very affordable rate, about the same amount of an insurance co-pay. If this style doesn’t sound appealing to you, don’t worry because we offer private treatments as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

That really depends on many factors such as how severe the issue is, how long it has been there and how well someone responds to treatment. Acupuncture is a process and the benefits continue with ongoing treatments. One thing you should know is that it is generally not a quick fix. If you are coming in with pain there is a very good chance you will leave with close to no pain at all but it doesn’t mean it will not come back. The good thing is that if you do respond well from one treatment your chances of it staying away improve greatly if you stay consistent with your appointments. In general, for acute conditions expect about 10-15 treatments, for chronic, long term concerns that have been around for months or years it could require much more. We never want finances to stand in the way of you getting better, therefore we have treatment plans for all budgets, see the FAQ section for more info.

If you decide to come in for a free consultation we will show you around our clinic, talk briefly about your health concerns to determine if we think we can help and we will explain the approach we take to getting you better faster. We will also explain the types of treatments we offer. You will leave with some forms to fill out and we will arrange for you to come in for another much longer visit, details below. Please note you will not be treated during the free consultation.

If you prefer to skip the free consultation and know you are ready to be treated, please tell us when you call, we will then ask you to download and fill out the intake forms before arrival if possible. During this first appointment we will conduct a very in depth health and medical history. We may ask you questions you aren’t used to hearing but we need to really understand what is causing your health concern in the first place. Of course if it is an acute injury we will focus on that but will still need to know about every aspect of your health. We will also educate you about acupuncture and Chinese medicine and how it differs from traditional allopathic medicine. Next we will do a variety of examinations which include observing your pulse and tongue. The treatment will come next, the number of needles we use will vary from person to person. You will then lay comfortably for about 45 minutes, after which we will remove the needles and give you some general recommendations for after the treatment. This first visit is always a private acupuncture treatment, not community style. We will also take any questions you may have during this first session. We want you to leave better educated about acupuncture in addition to feeling better. This appointment will take about 90 minutes so please allow enough time for it in your schedule.

Client Testimonials

Stephanie’s knowledge about how to get to the root cause of a chronic health issue is far greater than most in her field. She is a great acupuncturist and a diligent clinician. I highly recommend her.
Glenn G.
I went to Fast Track to Health after suffering for many years with terrible headaches and chronic back pain. Not only did Stephanie give me relief from those issues but she dove into some gastrointestinal problems I was having as well. With her knowledge and some diet changes, my overall health has improved significantly. Stephanie really listened to really cared about my overall well being and was such a wealth of knowledge not only in acupuncture but nutrition, supplements and stomach issues. I have learned so much from my visits to Fast Track to Health and it really has changed my life for the better!
